In your absence
We have to admit it – when you are not there with us, we miss you! After our gates have shut for the year we look around and amidst all that silence all we see are just empty lots, the bare windows of shops, and closed restaurants.
We miss hearing the joyous hubbub, embodied by the happy tanned faces, the pitched tents and awnings that make your campers seem for all the world like authentic second homes. But since Marina di Venezia never really sleeps, this season is also the best time to deal with other necessities! This is the time when the less glamorous behind-the-scenes work of our 80-strong maintenance team is only just beginning, as they refurbish and prepare the campsite for the new season starting in 2024.

During the winter season our maintenance operations are at full throttle. Teams of workmen clean and regenerate our marvellous white sandy beach and the green areas, our bungalows, not to mention the various technical and service facilities right across the campsite. Throughout the year, our agronomist performs weekly inspections of the whole area, deciding where and when new trees and vegetation need planting, lawn fertilization, and if the 10,000 or so trees in our grounds need pruning. These are the very same trees that provide much-needed shade on those hot summer days!
So, yes - if one gazes at the beach in winter, it seems strangely stark, bereft even of the lifeguard towers that have been dismantled and stored away. The sanitary blocks are shut, and the refreshment stands are hidden behind the dunes for added protection. But even in winter the sea has always had its own special fascination, and it isn’t unusual to see people (perhaps even some of you) strolling along the sea shore and enjoying the quiet off-season.

In winter, the usually bustling “Listón” (our signature central walkway) also takes a break. Bereft of its spinning tops and ‘amore’ signage (a popular backdrop for many summer photos), all the characteristic seasonal paraphernalia is stored away to protect it from the winter elements. And when we see our iconic emblem draped in canvas, we realise that the 2023 season is really over, and it’s now time to look ahead and think about 2024.
Each year brings with it some novelties: in 2023 it was the new Marina Sporting Centre, and last year in 2022 there were the new bungalows (Rex Lodges) built from scratch. Sometimes old buildings are demolished to make way for new ones. Throughout winter, we are surrounded by the sounds of work in progress, with truck engines and buzz of machinery and other specialized equipment keeping us company. Nature’s soundtrack alternates with the hubbub of the workmen going about their tasks.

Inside our offices, we are also busy with our administrative staff remaining operational. Our receptionists are always ready to answer your calls and e-mails. The off-season is also the time when some of us can also look forward to a well-deserved vacation. We might board a plane to some exotic faraway destination or stay closer to home with our families. Some of us may divide our time between work and study.
No matter what happens in the interim, you can count on us being ready to welcome you back to Marina di Venezia camping village on 20th April 2024. Our warm smiles and news of welcome developments are signs that we are working to improve your summer holiday experience with us!
