The Palio Remiero Regatta of Cavallino-Treporti: A Tapestry of Tradition, Sport and Community
In the heart of the Venetian lagoon, the Palio Remiero of Cavallino-Treporti is much more than a simple regatta: it is a celebration of local identity, an event that brings together sport, tradition, social life and a sense of belonging, bringing the banks of the Pordelio Canal to life each year with colours, emotions and stories rooted in the territory.
Reaching its 24th edition in 2026, the Palio Remiero continues to express the deep bond between Cavallino-Treporti and the lagoon. Originally created as a long-distance race from Punta Sabbioni to Cavallino, the event has evolved over time, becoming one of the most heartfelt occasions for the local community. This year too, the competition will take place along the evocative Pordelio Canal, following a route of more than 4 km from Ca’ Ballarin to Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta, offering the public the chance to follow the regatta also from the overwater cycleway on the lagoon.

The event involves the 12 contrade of the area, each ready to support its crew and colours aboard traditional Venetian caorline. It is a moment of healthy competition, but also of great collective participation, where each contrada brings its own history, symbols, supporters and strong connection with its community.
The caorline, typical boats of the lagoon tradition, are the true protagonists on the water. Historically created as working boats and also used to transport agricultural products, today they have become the symbol of a tradition that continues to live thanks to the passion of the rowers and local associations.
At the heart of the event is Remiera Cavallino, a point of reference for Venetian rowing and for the promotion of water sports in the area. The association preserves and passes on a discipline deeply connected with the lagoon, where technique, endurance, balance and team spirit come together in an ancient gesture that still feels alive today.

Venetian rowing is, in fact, a unique art, practised standing up and facing the direction of travel. It is a way of navigating that tells the story of Venice and its lagoon, while continuing to involve people of different ages, from the youngest participants to the most experienced rowers, creating a living dialogue between generations.
The Palio Remiero is also a great community celebration. Over the weekend of 27 and 28 June 2026, Cavallino-Treporti will welcome residents and guests with a rich programme of events: live music, workshops and activities for children, food stands, the AgriGreen Market with typical products and local handicrafts, and moments dedicated to sport and conviviality.

Among the side events, the Sunset Run also returns: a non-competitive recreational run organised by Litorale Runner, scheduled for Saturday, 27 June 2026, starting at 7:30 pm from Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta. It is an event designed to experience the territory at the rhythm of the evening, when the lagoon lights up with the colours of sunset and the suspended cycle path becomes the ideal setting for running or walking in a unique atmosphere.
Participants can choose between two routes: the 5 km Family Run, perfect for families and groups of friends too, or the full route of about 11 km, designed for those who wish to be accompanied for longer by the energy of the lagoon. A simple and accessible experience, between sport, nature and landscape, completing the Palio programme with a moment of movement, sharing and discovery of the territory.

What makes the Palio special is not only the race, but the atmosphere around it: the cheering along the route, the rhythm of the oars on the water, the colours of the contrade, the scent of the lagoon and the participation of a community that gathers around its roots.
The Palio Remiero of Cavallino-Treporti therefore represents a rare balance between memory and future: an event that enhances tradition, promotes lagoon culture and invites you to experience the territory in a slow, authentic and mindful way. It is an experience to discover during your holiday at Marina di Venezia, allowing you to come into contact with the truest soul of our coastline.
